2019 German Tour

Finally… No, that is not fair to say. I know that many people have to wait much longer than the two years I waited.
Nevertheless I was in Germany again. Already spend some days in Berlin at Christel’s.
Wonderful days filled with a little shopping, lovely food, a bit walking, long evenings of listening to music, recalling memories and some glasses of wine.

We were in touch with Heike and Axel and we met them in Dresden. We had dinner together and they were so kind to take our luggage every day. Thanks again to them!

The first concert in Dresden as said. We did a lot of walking from the station to the hotel and so on. Around 11 km and not much time to walk in the city itself…
Fortunately enough time for dinner…

Doesn’t matter which hand you use…you’ll always see the tenors.

Nessun dorma

We didn’t come up with a really original idea for a present for the guys so it was a mug again. First one was in 2012. We gave it the first night, so we didn’t have to carry it anymore. Ok, we carried just the two for the couples at the reunion. Think the mugs are a kind of collectors items. First time just 15. Now just 12!

The tour was called ‘Irish songbook tour’. That was correct. Many songs from the new CD.
So I was happy, because I love the CD.
As with most songs…love them more live. Then it is always (a little) different every night.

Do not really remember ‘Song for Ireland’ from earlier concerts, because I just heard it a few times live.
‘Rocky road to Dublin’ really changed. When I remember the first time I heard it live in …. it was so different. Maybe they don’t realize it themselves…
Not in Dresden, because it was in a theatre, but in the churches, they must sing it a little slower because of the echo. A challenge, I guess, as they are used to sing it in a certain way. Of course it worked out well.
‘Libiamo’ I heard for the first time in 2008 during the Dutch tour. Then it was with Donna and the acting was totally different. It seems to be a song that comes and goes in the shows.
‘Perfect’ is a song you might know from Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli. Now it was sung by Brian and James. Pretty special.
At ‘Calypso’ the whole audience yodelled.
Te last one on the first half was ‘Caledonia’.

The second half started with a solo of Brian. ‘Your last day’.
‘Forever young’…according to Matthew sponsored by Botox.
‘The coast of Labrador’ is Matthew’s new solo. The first time in Dresden I just was surprised, because it is not the kind of solos he mostly does. But now I’ve heard it a few times…I really love it. It is a lovely song. Hopefully soon I am allowed to let you hear it at the lyrics section of this page.
‘Maria’ was Daryl’s solo. We heard that before. Now he told that he loved the ‘cool’ dancing in West side story as it was totally different from the Irish dancing. Showed both of course!
Don’t know why, but wasn’t prepared for ‘The Dutchman’. I cried so many times at concerts during this song when my Dad suffered from Alzheimers and at the end had to go to a nursing home. As I do voluntary work in this nursing home now, there are so many more people I think of. Sure that is different, but I know so many ‘Margarets’. Great that is mostly is dedicated to care-givers.

The encore was ‘Nessun dorma’. Without choir!

It was cold in the church in Jena.
During the interval a man asked me if I was in Weimar once for a concert. “No, sorry.” But he looked familiar…
Here ‘The mountains of Mourne’ showed up.
Caledonia was gone. Instead we heard ‘La donna é mobilé’.
Still no ‘Pearl Fishers duet’…and it was on the set list I grabbed in Dresden…
Once I saw it on the list I really hoped they were going to sing it somewhere.

After the show we went in a ‘Bierstube’ in the neighbourhood of our hotel. Here it was VERY warm! Once we found a table, a couple came in. The man who asked if I was in Weimar and his wife. We invited them to sit at our table. Astrid and Helmut. They told us that they were CT-fans since they saw them in Weimar 2 years ago. After a while we found out that Sloss Ettersburg is in Weimar and that most people say Weimar. See…one is never too old to learn.

The train to Chemnitz had a delay of 2 hours. Yes we were in Chemnitz, but didn’t see much of the city.
In Chemnitz we also met Ute and Uli again. So a kind of reunion then. No restaurant near the venue and many restaurants were already fully booked. Even for the pretty weird time we wanted to go. Finally Ute and Uli found us a place to eat.

After dinner we went with Ute and Uli to the venue. I am not good with their navigation system(s). Long ago in Hardenberg it said ‘herberechnung’ all the time. They have another one now. Ute told me that this one was much better. But now I was in the car and it said ‘umkehren’. Uli blamed me…

And yes…there it was in Chemnitz! Pearl fishers duet. Yippee! Heard it before during a Dutch tour and love it.
In Magdeburg they sang it again!

The last one was Magdeburg. The show started at 18.00!!! We had to travel for hours. Then change and dinner. Again: I was in Magdeburg, but didn’t see anything besides the restaurant and the venue. Think I must steal some photos from fb…

There were some people from the Netherlands. I am awful with names and where I met people. They said they didn’t mind…hope so…
