What better way to spend August Bank Holiday Monday than to fulfill an ambition & get a ferry to the Saltee Islands, walk around the main island (the Great Saltee), witness the thousands of gannets nesting……. and of course with great company! (And we may have enjoyed, but earned a fish ‘n chip meal at The Little Saltee Restaurant& Takeaway!) . Another lovely day in the sunny south-east!

Leaving Kilmore Quay on the ferry. ⛴
The route we took, with a few diversions! The gannets were at about the 1.5km mark.
On the way back from the Great Saltee to Kilmore Quay.
Where we were dropped in the dinghy, after the ferry……. The Little Saltee in the distance.
Looking out towards Waterford, Cork & the Atlantic
Gannets nesting in their thousands!
Gannets nesting – what a sight, and sound!
More gannets……. 🐦
And yet more gannets……. and assorted wild daisies, and flowers…….
Ferns cover much of the Great Saltee Island.
Signs of past habitation……..
